Before you update your CV
You updated your CV on Sunday night. Not because a role caught your eye. Because you couldn't sleep, and rewriting your own bullet points felt more useful than lying there running through everything that's wrong with the job you have.
That's usually where this starts. Not with a job posting. With a feeling that's been building for a while, and a CV update that's really just a way of doing something about it.
But here's the problem with jumping straight to the job hunt: if you don't know what you're actually looking for, you'll end up somewhere close to what you already have. Same frustrations, different logo.
Working out how to know if you should change jobs starts before the search does. It starts with getting specific about what isn't working, what you're genuinely good at, and what you need that you haven't been getting. Most people skip straight past this part.
This checklist doesn't.
Fourteen pages, built to get you from “something's off” to something you can actually work with.

What you've liked and disliked in past roles, and what that tells you about what you need now
Your real skills and the qualities you bring to work, named specifically, not the vague version you'd put on LinkedIn
Where you thrive and where you don't, across ten concrete conditions: pace, structure, autonomy, team size, and more
What you actually need from a manager, written down so you'll recognise it when it's missing again
The lessons and the wins from your last job, so you're not walking into the next one blind
The five questions you need a real answer to before you sit in another interview
None of it is theoretical. It's the same groundwork I take clients through before we ever start talking about what comes next.
You're good at your job. People rely on you. And somewhere along the way, doing well stopped being enough of a reason to stay.
Maybe you're not sure if you're burned out or just finally seeing something clearly. Maybe you keep telling yourself it's fine, because on paper, it is. Or maybe you already know something has to change, and you're just not sure yet if it's the job or something closer to home.
This checklist won't hand you the answer. But it'll get you asking the right questions, on paper, where you can actually look at them.

Sign up and I'll send it straight over. Free, no strings attached, unsubscribe whenever you like.
You'll also hear from me over the next couple of weeks with more on this exact moment; the one where you know something's off but can't yet say what. Unsubscribe any time.
