While you wait, there's something I want to say that isn't in the checklist.
Most people who download a checklist like this one are standing at a bit of a crossroads. You know a decision is coming. Which can be good news. You were running out of road with the old path - this might be your shot at something built to last.
The checklist helps with the practical layer: your strengths, your preferences, how you'd answer in an interview. But in my experience, a lot of the people I work with have more going on underneath - and it goes deeper than that.
The checklist helps with the practical layer: your strengths, your preferences, how you'd answer in an interview. But in my experience, a lot of the people I work with have more going on underneath, and it deserves to be taken just as seriously.
It's not always burnout, though exhaustion is usually part of it. It's not always grief, though loss usually is too - the future you'd pictured, good colleagues, the safety of familiar work.
Often it looks like this: you've got your work under control. You know exactly who to go to for what. But you're holding it all a little at arm's length, because it doesn't quite feel like something that matters to you. You know the feeling - grinding away for someone else's bottom line, or just not moving anywhere in your career. Or the quiet thought that you can't really see the point anymore, and somewhere in the back of your mind you're thinking retirement sounds pretty good. Shame it's still 15 years off.
